Images, words and objects coexist to create a unique freedom that I find cannot be given through paint alone. Collage consents for the unorthodox mixing of materials and media to heighten discontinuities and abrupt juxtapositions within my artwork. Inspiration is taken from the world around me – our lives are spent amongst a bewildering clutter of sights, sounds, events and encounters with people, which are mirrored through collage. I seek to bring order to the chaos, to form an assemblage of harmony out of the confusions of life.

By reclaiming the ‘throwaway’ item and placing it within the structure of a painting or piece of art, I am able to change its status from being merely waste to having a visual purpose. I strive to find beauty and instil a fresh life into what others have discarded. The nature of collage allows me to take redundant and rejected paraphernalia which are experienced within the context of the accepted norm, and transform their meaning so that we are compelled to see these objects in a new way.

As each work is created purely upon the grounds of feeling and my inspiration at that moment, it is my intention for the viewer to take away their own individual interpretation. Collage offers a unique excitement through its tactile versatility and its ability to be read in a multitude of ways; it has significance to me on both an aesthetic and a personal level as the actual application of this medium reflects the layering of my thoughts, feelings, ideas and experiences.
